A non-profit dedicated to helping underserved children, proposes to expand its academic programming in Michigan. Currently, we offer literacy and numeracy development for elementary students. This new proposal, responding to the MDE-OST RFP, aims to serve up to 600 K-8 students across various subjects including reading, math, science, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).
Additionally, the program will offer talent enhancement activities in dance, music, art, and athletics. Baseline seeks funding to support before school, after school, and summer programs at 5 different community sites serving low-income urban children and families in Detroit, Centerline, Pontiac, Southfield, and Oak Park. This collaborative effort will not only expand Baseline's reach but also empower community providers to offer a wider range of services. Baseline Human Education Services received a $720,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Education's Out-of-School Time Program.
BHES has a long history of helping students achieve academic success. Led by Dr. Carolyn Carter, a literacy development expert, we've provided tutoring and educational services for over 20 years. We've partnered with schools across multiple states and received grants for our effectiveness, including projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
We empower students to become stronger readers and leverage those skills for academic success. We begin by introducing a reading intervention strategy (Reciprocal Teaching) that helps students decode text and mathematical symbols through collaborative learning dialogues with tutors.
BHES goes beyond basic tutoring. We help students develop essential learning frameworks, critical for understanding complex information. This empowers them to excel not just in school, but beyond.
