At BHES, our mission is to deliver academic programming to underserved children in Detroit, Pontiac, Southfield, and Oak Park. Currently, Baseline supports literacy and numeracy development for elementary students through the IXL Learning Portal, which offers diagnostic-prescriptive learning activities aligned with Michigan standards in English Language Arts, science, social studies, and mathematics. The MDE-OST RFP presents an opportunity for Baseline to expand its services to Michigan school-aged children while collaborating with community partners to enhance existing programming. The proposed program will provide essential academic development in reading, mathematics, and science for up to 600 K-8 students, along with STEM education, and talent enrichment programs in dance, music, art, and athletics.

- This year’s activities focus on STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and provide students in grades K–8 with diagnostic and prescriptive academic programming in science, mathematics, and English. Students also participate in social-emotional learning activities designed to strengthen their ability to understand and manage their emotions. Enrichment opportunities include basketball, dance, art, and the special Young Engineers Program, where students apply the Engineering Design Process to solve problems and complete hands-on projects. Fridays are dedicated to parent involvement. Each site hosts family-friendly activities and provides snacks to encourage parents to participate in both the learning and the fun.
